As a successful graduate of this course, you’ll have developed practical skills in data analysis, programming and problem solving. You’ll develop your interest in interactions between humans and algorithms, using data and logic to predict behaviour, solve problems and contribute to further applications of artificial intelligence in the world. All placements are approved and monitored in accordance with the University’s Institutional Code of Practice for Placement and Work‐Based Learning. In conjunction with a member of academic staff, you will undertake an individual research project. While the project must be related to your degree, you may choose or invent the precise topic yourself.
Introduction to different paradigms of machine learning, linear prediction, regression, maximum likelihood, Bayesian ML, linear classification, logistic regression, Naïve Bayes, decision trees and fuzzy systems. In addition to the technical skills you’ll develop, we aim to equip you with key employability skills such as team working, report writing, communication, and negotiation skills along with an insight into the industry. With the support of our academic and technical team, you’ll undertake a piece of research on a topic of your choice related to your studies.
Cyber Security Team Project is a module that equips students with the knowledge needed to keep an organisation secure from today’s cyber security threats and presents the necessary steps to take when a breach occurs. Using a combination of learning methods and teaching techniques such as project based learning, active learning and case studies, this module teaches cyber security management principles that are needed to secure the digital assets of an organisation. A major part of this module involves students working in teams to evaluate and develop secure policies and strategies to solve real-world cyber security issues for organisations. This module is intended to serve as an introduction to machine learning and pattern processing, but with a clear emphasis on applications.
The Java Collections API is explored in some more detail with emphasis on how to utilise these classes to best effect. A particular focus will be on the interaction with databases (e.g. via JDBC) and on writing secure applications. The Pre-Masters Programme is a preparation course held at the University of Strathclyde International Study Centre, for international students (non EU/UK) who do not meet the academic entry requirements for a Masters degree at University of Strathclyde. The Pre-Masters programme provides progression to a number of degree options. Our AI & Applications Masters is designed specifically for graduates without a computing science background.

In this module, you will explore the full data mining lifecycle, from data pre-processing and exploratory data analysis to the application and evaluation of supervised and unsupervised machine learning algorithms. The purpose of the module is to enable you to undertake a sustained, in-depth and research-informed project exploring an area that is of personal interest to you. In agreement with your supervisor, you will decide upon your topic which will take the form of a practical outcome (artefact) with accompanying contextual material. The main consideration when choosing your topic is that it must be aligned to the programme you are studying, and you should consider the relevance of this topic to your future academic or professional development.

The University will consider students who have grades required are I – II in six CAPE units, including 2 double-unit level courses with a minimum of II in each of these double-unit courses. The requirement for a subject taken to include I for A (A-level equivalent) and II for a B (A-level equivalent) in any required subject. The University will consider students who have taken A Level examinations, the International Baccalaureate (IB) or a suitable foundation programme, such as one of our Foundation Pathways, for entrance to undergraduate programmes.

Projects and assignments are designed to develop your independent learning skills and your ability to make decisions in uncertain situations. This is a great way to learn and is a valuable bridge to employment or further research at masters level. This course is delivered face-to-face over three semesters – teaching is scheduled based on the length of your course and the academic calendar.
